Associates

The Associates is a quartet of friends who have been singing together since 2019. They combine their friendship, love of singing and a touch of silliness to bring their style of entertainment to audiences of all ages. With roots in barbershop harmony, they sing a variety of songs from standards to doo wop to contemporary hits. The Associates live and rehearse in the metropolitan Phoenix area and have traveled across the country to perform. They have received high marks and were a favorite at the Barbershop Harmony Society 2022 International Chorus and Quartet Festival. They are also involved with A Cappella Syndicate, a top-twenty international a cappella chorus in Phoenix. Meet the members of The Associates Mark Springs (Tenor) Mark began singing at the early age of 5 in church choirs and joined the Tucson Arizona Boys Chorus when he was 8. He has been a member of several barbershop choruses and quartets in Iowa and Arizona and is currently the tenor section leader and chapter President of A Cappella Syndicate. Mark is married with two children and works as a software developer. Scott Wiegand (Lead) Scott can sing just about anything, whether it is Hungarian folk tunes, American Jewish music, Broadway show tunes, or contemporary a cappella. He started singing with his high school show choir and then taught Jewish music to children at the Hillel at Ohio University, and is always looking for a chance to perform. Scott sings and currently serves as a performance coach with A Cappella Syndicate. Scott is married with two children and works as a cloud software operations engineer. Gary Steinkamp (Baritone) Gary is a lifetime member of the Barbershop Harmony Society and is entrenched in the world of the barbershop style of a cappella singing. He has sung in several international level choruses and quartets, including three-time District Quartet Champion and International 3rd place medalist Standing Room Only. His credits include serving in director roles for several local and international choruses, and currently serves as one of the Musical Directors for A Cappella Syndicate. Gary is also a Certified Judge of 20 years, serving as Category Specialist for the Performance Category, and coaches choruses and quartets all over the world. Gary is married with two children and several grandchildren and works as a health care information systems consultant. Tim Haskins (Bass) Tim's musical background started with piano lessons in elementary school and started singing in high school with church choir and the school musical theater performances. He became a member of the Barbershop Harmony Society as a young adult after graduating from college. Tim has been involved with several Phoenix-area barbershop choruses and quartets, and currently serves as Vice-President and bass section leader of A Cappella Syndicate. The Vocalocity Barbershop Quartet was formed in FEB 2019, and two months later won the Arizona Quartet Championship of the Barbershop Harmony Society. In OCT 2019, they went on to win the Far Western District Quartet Championship! (California, Arizona, Nevada, southern Utah, Hawaii). The quartet members have decades of combined quartet and singing experiences. Tenor Rob Menaker has earned two International Quartet Championships singing with the NIGHTLIFE (1996) and MASTERPIECE (2013) quartets. Bass Dan Davenport earned a Seniors International Quartet Championship singing with the HIGH PRIORITY quartet in 2016. Baritone Eric Bjornsen has sung in several quartets, including the popular former AZ Champion quartet VOCAL EDITION (along with Dan). Lead Trevor Way has also sung in several quartets, and sang tenor with KING STREET BLUES earning a 5th place medal in the 2001 International MBNA College Barbershop contest. VOCALOCITY has already performed for many audiences and is regularly earning standing ovations for their quality singing and entertaining act.
